Men of Certain Age

Haven't turned on my TV for a couple of weeks, but tonightc after returning from work, I watched part of Bones, and The Closer, two of my favorite shows but following Closer, there was a new show that I have never seen... Men of Certain Age.   It actually had me laughing out loud in a couple scenes... hahaha!

Prepping…

我其實好抗拒文初戲,因為我覺得次次都是描述… one of the most desperate, darkest and corrupt times in Chinese history.  But I guess that’s what make stories interesting, where in the mist of this turbulent era, heroes and heroines are made.  Like most people who know me, they know that 義海豪情 is definitely not my cup of tea.  However, it seems like all the beauties are up in a frenzy about this show… and to have at least some talking points or at least know what the conversation is about in the near future, I watched the first 3 episodes so far.  Ha!  Typical me, the character “排骨”is the one who caught my eye.  What an exasperatingly adorable  wimp!  Talk about being put into a world that is totally foreign to oneself and have no way of coping with the situation.  He has no idea how to cope, no clue as to what he should do, and no matter how hard he tries… he has no direction and seemingly no hope.  He kind of reminds me of the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz… definitely needing tons of courage or maybe someone closer to home, like a student going away for college… and finds himself just not the academic type but simply cannot let his family down.    Anyway, I’ve downloaded four and five…

12 more days…

In 12 days, I will be on a plane!  Yahoo!  Can’t wait… can’t wait.  So excited!!!  Hahahaha!  Oh..oh, I must contain myself or I’ll scare the beauties witless.

I can’t believe I am finally getting a long vacation after 3 years of practically non-stop work.  This morning, my boss says he maybe going with me to Hong Kong and my jaw literally dropped to the floor!  First thoughts that came rushing into my mind are… NO WAY!  YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME!!!!  I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU OR HEAR YOUR VOICE FOR 3 WEEKS!  Then… a very deflated me said… “Oh, really?  That’s a maybe, right?  You know what, XXX?  You are really cramping my style!”  Kakakaka!  Boy, did that shock him!

Rest in peace

After the initial shock, I finally accepted the truth of the fact that you are no longer with us.  Sue called me yesterday and I got the confirmation from her.  I know now that it was your wish that when you so very ill in the hospital, you did not want me and King to come rushing up to SF to see you.  Our last memory of you was our trip this last June, to celebrate your birthday and and your life.  I am so grateful that I made that trip.  Seeing you happy and just having fun really made that trip a very special weekend.  Now, I will forever treasure those moments.

19 years ago, when I first met you… I was the young kid on the “block” and haven’t even started singing yet.  I still remember when we were having coffee at Zippy’s and you told me that I should learn how to play the Erhu and that you would teach me and I had the audacity to tell you “No…”  When CT kicked me underneath the table and rushed to try to cover for me… you just laughed and asked me why.  I remember your exact words… “嘿! 好多人想跟我學,我都未必教,你呢個妹竟然拒絕我?”  Do you remember how I answered? “嘩!拉二胡啲手指會起"枕"㗎!你比我睇吓你對手先啦.”  Then you stretched out both hands and let me inspected them.  I found… nothing, except very delicate fingers!

Only reasonable explanation

He is hit with a Cupid’s arrow by the one person that got under his skin and then slowly wormed her way into his heart.   From the moment he met her and subsequently pushed her out of the door… he treated her differently from others and why is that?  Is it because from their first encounter, where she thought he was Ivy’s fiancé and she gave her a scathing piece of her mind?    Someone who was so direct, with no guile, no pretense, said what she thinks, and compassionate… is not what he is used to?  Or is because she could pull herself out from the depths of despair and slowly but surely regains her self-esteem with a little help and push from himself and that he is “gratified” with his success?  Hmmm… or it could be no reason at all but “fate” or 天意.

Dear John…

Tonight in my state of semi-consciousness and exhaustion, I watched this movie.  As the story progressed, I found myself thinking of all the men and women in the armed services and their loved ones.  The sacrifices and choices that they make to preserve our freedom and our way of life.  May God speed your love to you and come home to loving arms soon.
