畢打奇緣…浪漫的心!

浪漫的心!

Amazing, isn’t it?  I know it isn’t pink… but did you know that it wasn’t pink in the show either?  What amazing lighting effects that could turn this red into pink!  This was a gift from a very, very special friend.  She gave me something other than memories to remember always for this wonderful journey that started with a television show 7277 miles away from Las Vegas.. ah.. the wonder of modern technology!  There were three other rings that came in the special package and with it a heartwarming bookmarker.

Emotional addictions and letting go…

First Monday without OP…

I woke up this morning and like every morning for the past 5 months, I checked my gmail account to see how many posts are there for me to chase.  (smile)  Then, I went online to say my greeting… made a few comments before heading out the door to go to work.  The only difference this morning was… I didn’t need to go dl anything, didn’t need to search frantically to see if the new OP was available yet and didn’t have to sit there and wait for the dl to finish so I can watch it before I leave the house.  Upon arrival at work, (super busy!) my concentration was fully on attacking the problems of the day.  My mind didn’t dwell on OP until one of my coworkers said to me, “ 哎呀, 而家畢打做完大結局, 個人好似好空虛咁...唔知點咁..冇野睇!”  I was at lost for words for a few seconds there and finally smiled and said, “係囉! 做完,而家冇野睇!”  Then I quickly walked back to my desk and sat down feeling just a tad depressed.  Thank goodness this conversation took place at the end of the day.  My only comfort is thinking to myself… every obsession runs a natural course… just let it be.

My last obsession…

I think the last time that I was so “immersed” into something was when I first started to learn how to sing 粵曲.  That addiction lasted… 15 years until I moved to Las Vegas.  I barely touched it in the last 5 years.  Yes, my connections are still there and if I choose to, I can go to Los Angeles, San Francisco or even Vancouver to have a fling with it again.  I love Cantonese Opera, I always have.  It’s really funny and even hilarious to my sorority sisters and high school friends because I am truly an All American Girl in their eyes!  Little did they know that deep inside, I had wanted that “Chinese” connection.  Hey,plus the 成功 and 虛榮感 are incredible!  (If any of you are reading this… ignore it… just let me rattle and prattle)  Thinking back to that very first time… when I stood on that little stage at the club and was literally dragged up there to sing half of a 10 minute song … 香夭.  撞板,走音,面紅,手心濕…樣樣齊!  But the gauntlet was thrown (plus I really do love 粵劇) and the challenge was there for me to seize the opportunity to really learn a Chinese cultural art form.  Thru this challenge, I was lucky to have met 女姐,羅艷卿,朱秀英,馮華,劉兆榮,鄧美玲,衛駿英, 等等.  I even sang with 尹光!  We sang “合兵破曹”Which was funny because he is so… brave!  Dang, he didn’t know the song that well… and still he put up a good show though and gracious enough to sing with an amateur like me… now, I have to add… it wasn’t my idea!  My favorite is still “龍鳳爭掛帥之洞房”, it was a lot of fun and also my last performance.  So… the experiences and lessons that I went thru and learned in those 15 years really are amazing.  The biggest gratification that I got was giving back to the community and perpetuating this form of art to the younger generation and non-Chinese audiences.

Ps:  Just in case you’re wondering…  if you’re wondering what I think you’re wondering… the answer is…

畢打奇緣 ~ Extraordinary Surprise 2009: Final Chapter!

最後呢個post,突然之間想用中文做標題… 我都覺得妙!

wah_1289-500x332 wah_1807-500x332

It’s final!  It has ended!  The story is finished!  After 337 episodes, 畢打自己人 has its final curtains dropped. The standing ovations are still resounding thru the forums and blogs. I thought I would feel desolate but I don’t, not really. The story ended with a flourish and left the three years to audiences’ imagination. The three years was probably needed due to the fact that Tina could be released from jail and Paula could return to “潮” with a flourish. (My only gripe was that I wished they could have used some other “voice” other than Paula’s, it was still hard on the ears when I listen to her speak Cantonese.) The last fifteen minutes was… different, it had nothing to do with the story or plot because it was a big dance party. But it was still great to see most of the characters all gathered for one last time.

Guess I have to conclude my “Extraordinary Surprise…” now that the show has finally ended. 337 episodes, 337 memories and much more… from the very first show to the very last, the characters became friends and family. The character, 殷賞, will be forever in my heart. I have never before in my entire life loved and become attached to a character more. I have never watched a TV show and became so immersed that her emotions became mine. As I stated in previous posts, the performance by Muse in 211 gripped me so hard that I was hooked beyond my wildest imagination. So hooked that I had to find共鳴 and I found it on TVB forum. Each character grew and matured in front of my eyes as the months progressed. The love life of 賞賞 was almost the main storyline even from the very beginning. In the end, I even come to love 閆汝大 and 琴姐! I believe that the trials and tribulations that賞賞 and余家昇 went through were appealing to me because it wasn’t so… young. My feelings are that in HK television青春 is literally shoved down viewers’ throats. The young actors and actress are onscreen because of their “pretty” face and one is lucky if they can actually act! The cast for OP was just the opposite, it banded together a group of very talented mature performers taking the leads and the younger actors playing much smaller roles (which is great because the younger ones have an opportunity to tune their craft and learn from the best). Thank the heavens for the production team to having such foresight! Thank my lucky stars that the script writers were brave enough to take on this challenge. They have my deepest and sincerest gratitude for making one of the best shows in television history.

Now for the other part… because of this show, I met some very adorable people through the internet. Again, never before did I make friends that I haven’t met face to face. Thanks to the internet and幕後一員, I met貓貓, 電電, 雁雁, 花花, 龜龜, 伶伶, 小紅, 綠綠, 高層, 菜菜, 餃餃, 茶茶, 三水, 豬豬, 石頭, 晶晶, 青緣, 妍貓, 多多, 草草, 古力, nn, M, squall, sophie, jessiy, roro, Eri, Ding, kkkary, kit, terrain, Rachel, 1235, sweeteymichelle, pearl, Erised, and so many others (排名不分先後). For the last six months many of us have been very frequent visitors to $1’s blog. There one will find goodwill and graciousness, care and hugs, and every so often a joke or two to make the day go by easier. Of course, I can’t leave out all the discussions and after reviews/thoughts of each show. It is a奇緣 thru and thru… it brings a smile to my face every single time I think about it. I know this for a fact, even though OP’s final curtain has fallen, this other surprise has many chapters left… because some friendships are forever.

Year of the Tiger… he so cute!
