By chance, I've watched this movie recently. I had really wanted to see it because of MoMo and there were such hoopla about it. All the talk about the dance sequence, a Mothers love scene, and difficulties of being a single Mom.
Wow..... talk about hoopla. I was so disappointed. I just can't seem to enjoy a HKG comedy except for one or two classics. Well, maybe I should say I don't enjoy slapstick comedy except for the Dick Van Dyke Show with Mary Tyler Moore. To me, almost all HKG comedy films are in the category of slapstick.
The only segment that I liked was when "Spring" came home and saw her daughter making a dividing line down the living room and her subsequent outburst. BUT I was like "huh?" in the following scene... I couldn't believe that was MoMo doing the crying. It seemed a bit overboard or ... do I dare say it... It was so fake! (Now I wonder whether she really like doing this movie as much as she said.)
Anyways, I sincerely hope that MoMo will get a much better script with a supporting cast that she deserves. I don't want to see her having to 醜化 herself in future roles. Yikes! Don't ever become another 吳君如! I would totally die!
In retrospect(again), her role in OP was really, really well done. It transcended gaps of age, culture, and gender. I better go and watch some reruns to get this awful taste out of my mouth.
